UST, Taiwan Nanotechnology Research Center

Nanotechnology is a critical area of technology development in the 21st century. This project is being jointly developed and monitored by the faculties of National Central University, National Chiao Tung University, National Tsinghua University and National Yangming University to fully display the cross-cutting nature of nano research, and the four universities jointly recognize the significance of the nano-center. The whole project includes cooperation in the areas of research, teaching and industry for nanotechnology. The four universities will focus on developing their human and material resources in the pursuit of excellence in nanotechnology research, working together to elevate the research in this project to the international level.


Nanotechnology is an important area of ​​research and development for the 21st century. Taiwan is focusing on the World Competitiveness Project with 1-100 nm materials and components as the object of research. The Nanotechnology Center consolidates the assets of National Tsinghua University, National Chiao Tung University, National Central University and National Yangming University in the field of nano research and has devoted its time and energy to the pursuit of excellence in nanotechnology research. There are four main objectives in this project:

(1) Establish a nanotechnology research center of outstanding excellence
(2) Construct a world-class shared nano research laboratory and core facilities
(3) Provide excellent education and training in order to cultivate outstanding talent in nanotechnology
(4) Utilize three-way co-operation in production, learning and research to help promote the nano industry in Taiwan

(7) Reduction of optical loss for photonic crystal waveguides and lasers
(8) Silicon Based Guided-Mode Resonance Nano-Photonic Device
(9) Study of GaN Nanostructures with Microcavity for Single Photon Emitter Application
(10) A Nano NMR for High-Sensitivity Macromolecule Analysis

2.Education and Training

(1) Plan a university department and Institute of Nanotechnology Program to nurture talent.
(2) Planning training courses for nanotechnology experimental apparatus and applications to meet the needs of academia and industry.
(3) Hold various nanotechnology forums and seminars to promote the exchange of new knowledge.

3.Industry-university Cooperation

The center works closely with ITRI, PIDC, and Taiwan's high-tech industries such as TSMC. In addition, they actively seek opportunities for cooperation with to leading research units throughout the world.
