1.Objectives
EERRC’s objectives lie not only in the pursuit of excellence in scientific and technological research to enhance the integration of inter-institutional educational quality and promote international cooperation and exchanges, but also to develop environmental and energy policy strategy assessment capabilities in order to be able to provide advice in government policy direction and ultimately to enhance the quality of life of the people of Taiwan. The center focuses on four main areas of research in the environment and energy:
(1) Environmental Science and Technology
(2) Energy Technology
(3) Environmental Monitoring and Modeling and Disaster Prevention
(4) Sustainable Development Strategies
2.Organizational Structure
The basic organizational structure of the center includes a Management Office, Steering Committee, Advisory Committee, Research Programs, Education Programs and International Academic Cooperation. During the initial period of development EERRC worked very closely with the Steering Committee and the Advisory Committee to formulate a strategy for development. A headquarters was set up at the National Central University campus, with subordinate offices at the other three schools of UST.
3.Research Project Content
Steering Committee composed by internationally renowned scholars and experts, the recommendations of the Steering Committee to give direction and development strategy. The Advisory Committee provides advice and evaluation on the substance of the research center operation. Membership list (in alphabetical order) as follows:
At present, research projects at the four schools are divided into four basic areas:
Environmental Science and Technology:
|
Nano Environmental Science and Technology in water, air and soil applications, such as pollution prevention, monitoring, risk assessment, and nitrogen cycle nitrogen oxides in the evolution of environmental systems. The focus here is on local topics that integrate nanotechnology and development of monitoring and control technology. |
Energy Technology: | Focus on the research and development of new energy technology and energy-saving technology. |
Environmental Monitoring, Modeling and Disaster Prevention |
Includes development of atmospheric environment, land and marine areas monitoring and simulation; engineering and environmental monitoring; and disaster prevention and early warning systems |
Sustainable Development Strategies |
Development of simulation models of the effects of implementation policies; research in occupational exposure and health problems in high-tech industries; energy-related pollution; and environmental health management. |
